WWebb Appraisal Review Board Staff Numbers

Like many developing counties, Webb has seen formal appeals to the appraisal review board (ARB) increase dramatically in the past decade. However, while the budget for the Webb County Appraisal District (WCAD) has increased, funding for the ARB has stagnated. With only seven members as of 2024, the ARB is overwhelmed, leading to longer wait times for taxpayers. Join O’Connor’s Property Tax Protection Program™ today and get representation for your formal appeal. Enroll, relax, and save.

Webb County ARB

To land a successful property tax protest with the ARB, a taxpayer needs excellent evidence to outclass WCAD. O’Connor is here to help. We can provide world-class evidence thanks to our databases and data-driven techniques, while our experienced representatives will put your best foot forward with each hearing. There is no cost to join, and you only pay O’Connor if you save money on your property taxes.

ARB Members

There were only seven members of the ARB in 2024, which has been the consistent number for the past decade. Each board is made up of three members, so this translates into two full boards and an alternate. Four of the members were returning veterans, while three were new to the board. There has been significant turnover since 2018, with plenty of fresh blood replacing former members.

Texas property owners should protest annually To avoid a surprise-increase in property taxes. This happens when the notice of value was lost. A large error in a home value is difficult to fix if not corrected through the normal appeal process.

Days with a Hearing

The ARB must meet until every single formal protest is heard. This means that as the number of appeals increases, so will the days worked. Most counties have responded by adding members, but Webb County has remained steadfast with a roster of only seven. Predictably, this has led to increasing days of work, with 2024 seeing 65 days of hearings, the most ever. The only option going forward will be to add more members to the board.

ARB Compensation

Each member of the board is an expert in appraisals, real estate, or taxes, and often serves simply to help the community. Despite these qualifications, pay is often low. In 2024, the highest per diem was $200, below what most counties pay. The lowest pay was $175 per day, while the median pay was $175 per day. This is another example of the organization needing more funding from WCAD.
